In the last 27 years since its establishment, the Zhuhai municipal government attached great importance to environmental protection, which helped Zhuhai become a very inviting place to live. Zhuhai is a coastal tourist city. It was given the Dubai International Award for Best Practices to Improve the Living Environment by the UN Habitat in 1998, the first of its kind in China. In 2005, Zhuhai topped the ranking of "the Top 10 Favourate Chinese Cities by European Tourists". "If Macau was Monte Carol, Zhuhai was Venice", said some European guests.
The public security is good. The municipal government has endeavoured to ensure social stability, and was provided with sufficient police force to maintain the security. Patrolling police system (i.e. 110) was established for maintaining social stability and providing services to the citizens in a timely manner.
