Established in June 1991, Phillips DAP Zhuhai has been expanding and products been diversified for more than a decade. The sales in 2007 reached RMB 2.27 billion (around USD 310 million).
As part of the multinational operation of Philips, the company is specialized in manufacturing Philips branded domestic appliance & personal care (DAP) products. Starting from the sole production of HQ 100 shavers, Phillips DAP Zhuhai is capable of producing over 40 kinds of products including multi-model shavers, hairdryers, ultra-sonic toothbrushes etc. All Phillips double-action shavers are made in Zhuhai and their three-action shavers have successfully tapped into the US market.
With the invitation and help from Phillips, many suppliers including a Singapore 注塑company are attracted to settle down in Zhuhai. The clustering of upstream and downstream products led to lower production cost.
The fast growth of Phillips DAP Zhuhai resulted from the flourishing Chinese market and its corporate strategy of “localization”. In R & D, Phillips customizes the production line to fit the labour-intensive feature in the region; in product development, Phillips is committed to “designed in China, made in China, consumed in China” to fulfill the needs of the Chinese market.
